Manage prescriber records to support traceable dispensing

Recording prescriber information in Compound Direct helps maintain a complete and reliable record of care. While adding a prescriber before dispensing a script is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged to ensure accurate tracking of scripts, patients, and prescribing history within your workspace.

This guide will help you to:

  • Create and maintain complete prescriber records, including identification details and supporting documents.
  • Quickly find prescribers and review their associated scripts and patients.
  • Ensure accurate linking of prescribers to drafts and dispensed records for improved traceability.

Now that you understand the purpose and benefits of managing prescriber records, follow the steps below to create, update, and navigate prescriber information within your workspace.

Finding prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.
  2. A list of prescribers is displayed, including under their Name, Email, Phone, Prescriber Number, and Prescriber Type.
  3. To find the desired prescriber, you may either:
    1. Find the prescriber directly from the current shown list.
    2. Begin typing the prescriber's name / email / phone / prescriber number into the search search bar.
    3. Click on ‘More Filters’ button.
      1. Click the ‘Archival Status’ drop-down menu.
        1. Tick the ‘check_box Show Archived’.
        2. Tick the ‘check_box Archived Only’.
      2. Click the ‘Prescriber Type’ drop-down menu.
        1. Select a prescriber type.
        2. Click ‘Show More...’ to view all available prescriber types.
    4. Click on the ‘sort Sort By’ button, you may either:
      1. Select radio_button_checked Date Created (newest / oldest first).
      2. Select radio_button_checked Date Modified (newest / oldest first).
      3. Select radio_button_checked Doctor Name (A-Z / Z-A).
  4. Click on the desired ‘Prescriber's Name’ when found to view.

Adding prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.

  2. Click on the ‘Create Prescriber’ button.

  3. Enter the prescriber information: first name, last name, email address, phone number, fax number, and mobile number.

    • To add multiple mobile / phone / fax numbers, place a commma between each number set.
  4. Enter the prescriber’s street address, suburb, state, and postcode.

  5. Enter the prescriber identifier; this may include the AHPRA registration number or any other identifier that is relevant in your country.

    • If you enter the same prescriber identifier twice, the system will alert you showing duplicate prescribers.
  6. Select the prescriber type from the drop-down menu.

    1. Click ‘Show More...’ to view all available prescriber types.
  7. Enter the prescriber qualifications and practice name.

  8. Leave any important notes for the prescriber.

    1. Select the note importance from the drop-down menu.
    2. Enter the note in the space provided.
    3. You can height resize the note field by height by dragging the bottom-right corner.
  9. Click on the ‘Create’ button to add the new prescriber.

  10. Once created, you may upload any relevant files to the prescriber.

Bulk importing prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.
  2. Click on the ‘More Actions keyboard_arrow_down’ drop-down menu.
  3. Click on the ‘Import Prescribers (.csv)’ button.
  4. You will be redirected to the ‘Import Prescribers’ page.
  5. You can download a sample template by clicking ‘Download example file (.csv)’ to use as a guide when entering customer details.
  6. In the spreadsheet, enter the prescriber details, including first name, last name, phone, fax number, email, prescriber type, prescriber ID, practice name, qualifications, address, suburb, postcode, state, and prescriber note.
  7. Once your CSV file is ready, click the ‘Upload’ field to begin the import process, then choose the CSV file from your device.
  8. Once ready, click on the ‘Import Prescribers’ button.

Editing prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.

  2. Find the prescriber to edit in the list or directly by typing the prescriber's name / email / phone / prescriber number into the search search bar.

  3. Select the desired prescriber.

  4. Edit the prescriber information: first name, last name, email address, phone number, fax number, and mobile number.

  5. Edit the prescriber’s street address, suburb, state, and postcode.

  6. Edit the prescriber identifier; this may include the AHPRA registration number or any other identifier that is relevant in your country.

    • If you enter the same prescriber identifier twice, the system will alert you showing duplicate prescribers.
  7. Edit the prescriber type from the drop-down menu.

    1. Click ‘Show More...’ to view all available prescriber types.
  8. Edit the prescriber qualifications and practice name.

  9. Leave any important notes for the prescriber.

    1. Select the note importance from the drop-down menu.
    2. Enter the note in the space provided.
    3. You can height resize the note field by height by dragging the bottom-right corner.
  10. Upload any relevant files to the prescriber.

  11. Once done with the changes, click on the ‘Save’ button.

Finding prescriber scripts and patients

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.
  2. Click on the desired prescriber's name when found to view.
  3. Click on either ‘restore View Scripts’ or ‘person View Patients’.
    1. ‘restore View Scripts’ displays a searchable list of all dispensed scripts prescribed by the selected prescriber.
    2. ‘person View Patients’ displays a searchable list of all patients that has scripts prescribed by the selected prescriber.
  4. Click on the desired script or patient record to view.

Merging prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.
  2. Click on the desired prescriber's name when found to view.
  3. On the ‘Prescriber’ record, click the ‘More Actions keyboard_arrow_down’ drop-down menu.
  4. Select the ‘Merge from other Prescriber’ button.
  5. On the ‘Merge Prescribers’ modal, you may either:
    1. Directly select a prescriber from the current shown list and confirm.
    2. Search for a prescriber by name, email/phone, or prescriber no to view similar records.
      1. Different prescribers appear as options, including their Name,Email/Phone, Prescriber No, and Created At details.

      2. Tick the check_box checkbox to select a ‘Prescriber’.

      3. Click on the ‘Confirm’ button.

      • This will delete and merge all data from the ticked record into the currently viewed prescriber record.

Archiving prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.

  2. Select the ‘Prescriber’ you want to archive.

  3. On the ‘Prescriber’ record, click the ‘More Actions keyboard_arrow_down’ drop-down menu.

  4. Select the ‘Archive’ button.

  5. To unarchive a record, click the ‘More Actions keyboard_arrow_down’ drop-down menu. Click on the ‘Unarchive’ button.


  • A timestamp will appear at the top of the page indicating the date and time the record was archived, as well as the user who archived it.

To archive multiple prescribers:


  1. On the ‘Prescribers’ page, select the prescriber record(s) you want to archive by ticking the check_box checkbox beside each record.
  2. Click on the ‘More actions keyboard_arrow_down’ drop-down menu.
  3. Select the ‘Archive Prescribers’ button.
  4. Click on the ‘Archive’ button.

Exporting prescribers

  1. Go to the ‘Prescribers’ page.
  2. On the ‘Prescribers’ page, select the prescriber record(s) you want to export by ticking the check_box checkbox beside each record.
  3. Click on the ‘More actions keyboard_arrow_down’ button.
  4. Select the ‘Export Records’ button.
  5. On the ‘Export Records’ modal, select the information you would like to include in your export.
  6. To export desired records, you may either:
    1. Click the ‘Export’ button.
    2. Click the ‘Export as Excel (.xlsx)’ button.
    3. Click the ‘Export as CSV (.csv)’ button.
  7. Click on the ‘Export Templates’ and ‘+ New Export Template’ to customise and save a template.
